Virginia Faye Galica, 91, of Frostburg, MD, died Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at Mountain City Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Frostburg with her sons by her side.
Born January 10, 1929, in Oliver #3, Fayette Co., PA, she was the daughter of the late Fred G. and Carrie C. (Lehman) Fike. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Stephen Galica, July 28, 2016; two sons Terry Galica and (infant) Joseph Galica; one brother, Robert Fike; three sisters, Margaret Denny, Ruby Blanda and Betty Klecka.
Early in life, Mrs. Galica worked at the Pentagon, where she was a member of their bowling league, as well as the Flushing Shirt Factory and Grantsville Egg Plant. She was a homemaker and a member of the Divine Mercy Parish, St Michael Catholic Church, Frostburg. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Frostburg Council 1442 Ladies Auxiliary as well as the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
Mrs. Galica was known for her baking and cooking, especially buns that were requested by many, Polish foods, cookies and desserts of all kinds. She started genealogy in the 1980s, devoting years to researching the Fike and Galica families. She raised three sons, whom she would refer to as her three holy terrors, Tom, Tim and Terry. She loved her family more than anything and was married to the love of her life in 1949 who she is now joined with again.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas J. (Lynn) Galica, Albuquerque, NM; Timothy W. (Gladys) Galica, Avilton, MD; four grandchildren, Joseph (Heather), Amanda (Jason), Douglas (Kari) and Regina; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Kylie. Also survived by her Aunt Evelyn and lifelong friend, Violet Finzel.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to her Nephew Bill Denny and his wife Nancy for the many visits, the thoughtfulness and caring throughout the years as well as her niece Barb Meese for the constant loving correspondence. The family would also like to thank Mountain City Center’s entire staff for their compassionate care of Mom the last 4 years, especially Patricia Shrout, Jessica Deal, Denise Stevens, Becky Thomas, Cheryl Harper, Barb Ford, Janet Jackson, Robin Warnick, Corrie Winkler and Corrie Thompson.
Due to the limited number of people allowed to gather following the executive order by the State of Maryland, services will be private.
