Violet Regina (Friend) Hoye, 88, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation, Oakland.
Born May 29, 1931, in McHenry, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Harrison and Theresa Ellen (Teets) Friend. She was also preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Paul E. Hoye; three sisters, Bessie Carter, Nora Durr, and Juanita Savage; nine brothers, Cecil, Parley, Orville, Randall, Wilmer, Junior, Leo, Ernest Friend and an infant brother.
Mrs. Hoye graduated from Accident High School in 1948. Three years later, she was employed by Glenn L. Martin Airplane Factory in Baltimore, MD, where she worked until 1953. She returned home to McHenry in 1955 and worked at the Flushing Shirt Factory in Grantsville, MD for forty years. Mrs. Hoye then worked at Deep Creek State Park for twelve years. She was a member of the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren. She loved listening to blue grass and gospel music and quilting and crocheting. Mrs. Hoye won a blue ribbon at the fair for one of her quilts.
She is survived by her son, Willie Gibbs Friend and wife, Cathy, Oakland; two grandchildren, Willie (Frankie) Friend, Morgantown, WV; Angie Malfaro and husband, Mike, Friendsville, MD; four great grandchildren, Elijah, Ariella, Ian, and Isaac; several nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.
Due to the limited number of people allowed to gather following the executive order by the State of Maryland, services will be private.
Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, is in charge of her arrangements.
