Shelby Jean (Miller) Weslow, 83, of Frostburg, MD, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at Sterling Care Frostburg Village, Frostburg, on her 83rd birthday.
Born July 4, 1937, in Mt. Savage, MD, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Bettie Mae (Robinette) Miller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William “Fred” Weslow; one brother, George E. Miller; and one sister, Jacqueline Beal.
Shelby was a cake decorator by trade and retired from Dairy Queen in LaVale, MD. She was also a talented seamstress, having made various uniforms for the Mt. Savage High School Drill Team in the early 1980’s and for her husband’s bands in the 1970’s. She attended Corriganville Elementary School and was a graduate of Mount Savage School, Class of 1956, a member of the Mountain Chapter #15 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Cresaptown Eagles Auxiliary #2883.
She is survived by her three children, James E. Hiser and wife, Joan, Carlisle, PA; Colin E. Hiser, Frostburg; Tammy (Hiser) Wellings and husband, William, Frostburg; two grandchildren, Travis Hiser and fiancé, Rebecca Mohr and Dylan Winters; one great-grandson, Thomas Hiser, all of Frostburg; two step-children, William Welsow and wife, Cindy and Cheri Llewellyn, all of Frostburg; seven step-grandchildren, Cynthia Alkire, Timothy Llewellyn, Melissa Weslow, Michael Llewellyn and Tiffany Weslow, all of Frostburg; Brittany Wellings and Matthew Wellings, both of Nashwauk, MN; several step-great grandchildren; one brother, Guy Dennis Miller and wife, Gail, Amissville, VA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanetta Miller, Carpendale, WV; Shirley Pryor, Laverne Bridges, Carol Gomer, Harvey Weslow and wife, Kay and Stanley Weslow and wife, Shirley, all of Frostburg; dear friend, Carolyn Folk and family; and several nieces and nephews.
Shelby was known as “Mom” and “Grandma” to many and always had a place to sleep or room at her table for whoever needed it. She will be remembered for her annual Memorial Day picnics and her willingness to help whoever needed it.
At her request, she will be cremated. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, MD 21536, on Saturday, July 11, 2020, from 10-11 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. George Harpold officiating. Mt. Chapter #15 OES will hold a memorial service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday.
