Roger Lee Chaney, 75, of Salisbury, PA, died Saturday, January 25, 2020, at In Touch Hospice House, Somerset, PA.
Born July 6, 1944, at Milford Township, PA, he was the son of the late John Daniel & Blanche Alverta (Kinsinger) Chaney. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Doreen Fogle & Linda Kay Chaney; one sister, Alice Kinsinger; two brothers, John Chaney & Ray Chaney.
Mr. Chaney drove the school van for Salisbury-Elk Lick School District, retired from Director of Environmental Services for Meyersdale Medical Center and also worked for 20 years at Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland, MD. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served as Past President of the church council, Vice President of the Joint Council and was sexton of the church. Also, Roger was a member of Meyersdale Lodge #554, F & AM, Meyersdale Elks Lodge, Earl H. Opel Post 459, American Legion, 35 year member of the Salisbury Lions Club and served 12 years on the Salisbury-Elk Lick School Board.
Roger was an umpire for Little League Baseball for 29 years, coached high school boys basketball for 14 years, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Camp Sequanota, Disaster Relief Work, Relay for Life and the American Red Cross.
Surviving are one daughter, April (Rick) Rounds, LaVale, MD; two brothers, Howard Chaney, Lebanon, PA, Roy Chaney, Stoystown, PA; four sisters, Gladys Mitchell, Somerset, PA, Dorothy Eisentrout, Salisbury, Nancy Moon, New Florence, PA, Carol Lee, Stafford, VA; six grandchildren, Kyle Rounds, Leanne Rounds, James Fogle, Tessa Fogle, Elizabeth Fogle and David Raygor.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, from 6-8 pm. Services will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 11:00 am with the Rev. Edward Devore officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded by Earl H. Opel Post 459, American Legion.
A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
