Park Herman Opel

November 4, 1928 ~ April 22, 2020 (age 91)


Park Herman Opel, 91, of Accident, MD, died Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, MD.

Born November 4, 1928, in Accident, he was the son of the late Herman and Melda (Schrock) Opel. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan Loveta (Baker) Opel; one brother, Vernon Opel; and two sisters, Bernice Baker and Viola Yommer.

Mr. Opel was a farmer and lifelong member of the Glade Mennonite Church. He played many musical instruments, loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing sports with his kids.

He is survived by three sons, John Park Opel, Meridian, MS; Jeffrey Dale Opel and Gerald Glenn Opel, both of Accident; three daughters, Connie Sue Skipper, Oakland, MD; Peggy Ann Brown, Abbottsford, B.C., Canada; Rebecca Joy Yoder, Accident; one brother, Don Opel, Grantsville; nine sisters, Erma Stephens, Nora Evans, and Jean DeWitt, all of Oakland; Thelma Yoder, Eva Miller, and Hazel Maust, all of Accident; Marie Eisentrout, Beaverdam, VA; JoAnn Bender, Kalona, IA; June McCann, Albright, WV; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Due to the limited number of people allowed to gather following the executive order by the State of Maryland, services will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements.
