Matilda Jane “Tillie” Walker, 91, of Salisbury, PA, died Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at UPMC, Somerset, PA.
Born March 13, 1929, in Meyersdale, PA, she was the daughter of the late William Victor Hutzel and Martha Mae (Hutzel) Hutzel Glessner. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Broadwater and her sister, Emma J. “Cookie” Glessner.
Tillie was a member of the Meyersdale High School, Class of 1947. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Salisbury American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. Walker began working as a seamstress for Meyersdale Manufacturing. She then worked for 20 years as a medical receptionist for the Salisbury Medical Clinic with Drs. Atwell and Martin. Tillie was well known as the owner and operator of Tillie's Tavern, Salisbury.
Surviving are her husband, William H. “Bim” Walker; three sons, James S. Broadwater and wife, Donna, Deep Creek Lake, MD and Estero, FL; William K. Walker, Frostburg, MD; Timothy A. Walker, Salisbury; two daughters, Sandra Sue Barth and husband, Michael, Ocean City, MD; Pamela B. Adams and husband, Melvin, Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Due to the current health restrictions, a private family viewing and funeral service will be held. Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery.
Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, is assisting the family with arrangements.
