Jean Ashton Brownlee, 88, of Swanton, MD, went to sleep in the Lord, on August 23, 2020, at her home peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Born August 5, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late George Ashton and Margaret (Palmer) Brownlee. She is also preceded in death by her good friend, Carolyn Dale Bennett.
Jean had a master’s degree in education and began her career as a physical education teacher. She later became principle and then retired from New Paltz Board of Education, NY, as a guidance counselor. Jean was a member of the Mountaintop Seventh-day Adventist Church and enjoyed being involved with any activities at the church. She was a member of the Deep Creek Yacht Club and liked being on the lake and watching wild life. Jean loved her dark chocolate.
She is survived by two nephews, Mark Vincett and wife, Elise, NY; Matthew Vincett and wife, Jennifer, NC; her friend, Rita Smith, Oakland, MD. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Garrett County Hospice and Jean’s caregivers for the care she received.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Dr., Oakland, MD, 21550, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, from 11am to 1pm. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel following visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ed Rockwell and Pastor Matthew Haire officiating. Interment will be at Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
