Hazel Irene (Tichnell) Jenkins

September 4, 1919 ~ March 30, 2020 (age 100)


Hazel Irene Jenkins, 100, of Grantsville, MD, died Monday, March 30, 2020, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.

Born September 4, 1919, at Bloomington, MD, she was the daughter of the late Irvin Stanley & Edith Caralee (Taylor) Tichnell.  Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bowen Jenkins, January 23, 1988.  She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald Jenkins; two grandchildren, Donnie and Annette; five brothers, Walter, Irvin, Cleaver, Raymond & Willard Tichnell.

Mrs. Jenkins was a waitress for Woolworth Lunch Counter, clerk for Grants Department Store and Hickory Farms, volunteered for the MD Food Bank and also a 4-H leader.  She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, church choir and taught Sunday School.

Surviving are two sons, Richard I. Jenkins, Grantsville, Kenneth I. Jenkins, Frostburg, MD; one daughter, Joyce K. (Thomas) Hawks, Elkton, MD; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Due to the limited number of people allowed following the executive order by the State of Maryland, graveside services will be private. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
