Donald Emmons Platter, 72, of Grantsville, MD, died Thursday, October 1, 2020, at his residence.
Born February 21, 1948, in Meyersdale, PA, he was the son of Nellie (Wiley) Platter, Grantsville, MD and the late Ray Platter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Judith (Hutzell) Platter; two brothers, Guy and William Platter.
Mr. Platter was a mechanic for the Accident Garage and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of the Jennings United Methodist Church and the Accident Post 208, American Legion. He was a man of few words, but underneath his tough Marine exterior his actions showed his character of compassion and kindness.
Along with his mother, he is also survived by three daughters, Tracy (Ralph) Arnold, Finzel, MD; Tina (Terry) Hersh and Charity (Jeffrey) Carrigan, all of Grantsville; one brother, Richard Platter, Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Erica Cunningham, Jarrett Carrigan, Colton Carrigan and Austin Hersh; three great-grandchildren, Xander, Teddy and Ryker.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Saturday, October 3, 2020, from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Brandon Hutzell officiating. Interment will be in the Salisbury Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by local area veteran's organizations.
