Sam Lewis Mittwede, Sr., 79, of Grantsville, MD, died Monday, September 16, 2019, at his residence.
Born June 23, 1940, in Shelbyville, TN, he was the son of the late William Carl and Mae Gardner (Tarpley) Mittwede, Sr. He was also preceded in death by one son, John Mittwede and one brother, William C. Mittwede, Jr.
Mr. Mittwede worked in housekeeping at Goodwill Mennonite Home and was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the New Hope Christian Fellowship, where he was a member of the church board and a former member and Past Exalted Ruler for the Fraternal Order of Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne (Miller) Mittwede; one son, Sam L. (Shelly) Mittwede, Jr., Orlando, FL; former wife and mother of his beloved son, Lydia Mittwede, Orlando; mother-in-law, Dottie Miller; brother-in-law, Joe (Liz) Miller; sister-in-law, Terri Guthrie; nieces, Nicole Guthrie and Becky (Patrick) Hetz.
Friends will be received at the New Hope Christian Church, 176 Springs Rd., Grantsville, on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the church on Friday, September 20, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don DeMars officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Miller, Donnie Witt and Reed Miner.
