Robert Harvey "Peanut" Speicher

June 29, 1929 ~ September 30, 2019 (age 90)

Robert Harvey “Peanut” Speicher, 90, of Grantsville, MD, went home peacefully to be with the Lord, Monday, September 30, 2019, at WMHS Regional Medical Center, Cumberland, MD.

Born June 29, 1929, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Hobert Harvey and Nellie Grace (Hershberger) Speicher. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Karolyn “Kay” (Beachy) Speicher; one son, Robert Craig Speicher; two brothers, Billy and Charles “Bud” Speicher; and one sister, Audra Hahn.

Peanut was a 1947 graduate of Grantsville High School. Following high school he began working for Casselman Motor Company. He then became owner and operator of Speicher’s Body Service, Speicher Excavating for over 50 years and the Grantsville Car Wash for over 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion. He was also a member of the former St. John’s U.C.C. and the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department, from March 17, 1960 to January 1971, was vice president in 1963 and was president from 1964 to 1965.

He is survived by two daughters, Deanna K. Speicher, Grantsville; Kristina (Speicher) Brown, Somerset, PA; three grandchildren, Katherine Brown-Hofer and husband, Brian, Lauren Brown and Douglas MacEwen Brown; one great-grandson, Carter Hofer.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
