Robert Edward Harvey, 87, of Oakland, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Robert was born on January 30, 1931, in Oakland. He was the son of the late Earl Kennison and Lena Lucille (Beckman) Harvey. Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by six brothers, Marshall, Calvin, Fred, Earl, Jr., Ernest, and Douglas Harvey and two sisters, Lucille Hostetler and Fannie Mae Kolb.
Robert is one of the oldest members of Deep Creek Baptist Church and served there for many years as a deacon. He was a graduate of Oakland High School and served in the U.S. Army for two years in Japan, serving as a Morse Code operator. Bob was also a partner in Harvey Brothers Farms, Inc. They grew potatoes in Garrett County and potatoes and tomatoes in Naples, FL. He was also a partner in Bonita Tomato Packing Company in Bonita Springs, FL.
Bob is survived by the love of his life, June (Leydig) Harvey. They enjoyed 58 years together. Also surviving are two brothers, Guy Harvey, Swanton and Arthur Harvey, Portland, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Deep Creek Baptist Church, 19841 Garrett Highway, Oakland on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dave Helton officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Accident.
