Michael Eugene “Mike” Lawson, 62, of Friendsville, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV, surrounded by his kids and immediate family.
Born July 14, 1957, in Confluence, PA, he was the son of the late Marlin and Lena (Spaw) Lawson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy J. Lawson.
Mike was a retired truck driver, where he logged over a million miles accident free. He drove many years for Quality Supplier to get those miles. He hauled heavy equipment for Glen Johnston/Caraco, Inc. He also worked as a boiler operator for the sewer systems and as a spotter switching trailers at the Luke Mill for several years. Mike was a jack of all trades.
He was a longtime member of the Friendsville Lions Club for many years, where he ran the kitchen for many events at the Friendsville Park. He did many chicken fries to raise money for charity and at one time served as President, receiving the highest award, The Melvin Jones Award.
Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman and that passion he passed on to his kids. He enjoyed gardening, farming and riding his motorcycle and snowmobile.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Lawson, Grantsville, MD; two sons, Robert Lawson, Grantsville and Russell Miller, Fallingwaters, WV; step-mother, Bonnie Merschat-Lawson; one sister, Sherry (Gene Alan) Fike, Friendsville; one brother, Mark Lawson, Uniontown, PA; and two grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday, September 13, 2019, from 1-4 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Cremation will follow the services.
