Mary Lillian (Miller) Rush

December 4, 1946 ~ January 25, 2018 (age 71)

Mary Lillian (Miller) Rush, 71, of Oakland, MD, died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born December 4, 1946 in Gormania, WV, she was the daughter of the late Sarah E. (Miller) Houdershelt. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, George D. Houdershelt, Sr.; a brother, George D. Houdershelt, Jr. and a sister, Martha A. Houdershelt.

Mary graduated from Keyser High School. She was respected for her strong work ethic. Mary was the assistant human resources manager at Bausch and Lomb. Later, she worked at Cuppett and Weeks Nursing Home as a personnel director until her retirement. She was a member of Oak Park Church of the Brethren, Oakland, where she taught Sunday School and was in charge of the “Food and Fellowship” meals at the church. She also went on multiple mission trips to Sucre, Bolivia. She enjoyed gardening, canning and working outside. Mary loved being mother to her children, “mom-mom” to her grandkids and loved spending time with her family and her many friends and acquaintances that she made through her years of work.

She is survived by her husband, Allan D. Rush, Sr.; son, Allan D. Rush, Jr., Clear Spring, MD; daughter, Saba R. Weimer, Locust Grove, VA; her children, Brittney (Jason)Riddle (children, Morgan and Melanie); Katlyn Weimer; Desiray Wines; Cheyenne Wines; Zoe Wines; daughter Alasha L. (Justin M.) Hunt, Deer Park, MD; her children, Ava Hunt; Gabriel Hunt; three “adopted” grandchildren, Jacob Weimer; Alex Dokos; Ally Murrell.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren, Oakland on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Carl Fike and Pastor Donnie Savage officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Oak Park Church of the Brethren, 110 Church Lane, Oakland to benefit the “Food and Fellowship” meals or the Bolivian orphanage project.
