Jimmie Dale Friend, 77, of Friendsville, MD, died Monday, September 30, 2019, at his daughter’s residence, Bruceton Mills, WV.

Born August 24, 1942, in Friendsville, he was the son of the late Cornelius Ray and Mary Jane (Jenkins) Friend. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean (Broda) Friend, September 11, 2007; son-in-law, Gary Edwin Friend, Jr.; one brother, John Lewis “J.L.” Friend; and one infant sister, Mary Jane Friend.

Mr. Friend was a draftsman and engineer for Western Electric, Hunt Valley, MD. He was a 1960 graduate of Northern High School. He took residence and employment in Baltimore where he met his wife and raised their daughter. Jimmie retired to his home in Friendsville in 1985, where he enjoyed and volunteered at the Friend Family Association. He enjoyed genealogy, family reunions, road trips and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Blooming Rose United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay servant and was a Sunday school superintendent and a teacher.

He is survived by one daughter, Teresa “Terry” Friend-Lewis and husband, Robert; two grandsons, Gary Edwin Friend, III and Jimmie Dale Friend, II.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Blooming Rose United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Samuel Wachter officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Blooming Rose Cemetery.
