Frank Joseph Fash, 92, of Grantsville, MD, passed away at his home on Friday, January 26, 2018.
Born December 4, 1925, in Hoboken, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Justin and Catherine Fash. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Joan Fash.
He served in World War II, at 18 years old participating in the Omaha Beach landing in Normandy on D-Day. He then went on to serve in The Korean War, and in Vietnam. Frank retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and then worked for St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in the Hematology Department. He then went on to work at the National Institute of Health where he was engaged in neurological research, and co-authored several peer reviewed articles for medical journals. He and his wife moved to Grantsville in 1982. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Ann Catholic Church, and he was an avid collector, reader, and researcher.
He is survived by seven children, Mary, John and wife, Elizabeth, Kevin and wife, Boni, Frankie and husband, Mark, Thomas, Catherine and husband, Andrew, Moya and husband, Jason; and one brother, Justin Fash; and one sister, Mary Patrusevich; 6 grandchildren, Anne, Lindsay, Andy, Courtney, Lauren, Madeline and one great-grandson, Ryker.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, from 5pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Ann Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Hendricks officiating. Interment will be held in the MSVC, Rocky Gap Veteran's Cemetery, Flintstone, MD. Military graveside rites will be accorded by local area veteran’s organizations.
