Earl Richard Nixon, Jr., 80, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at his home.
Born July 30, 1938, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Earl Richard Sr., and Lavernia Kathleen (Baker) Nixon. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Steve Nixon.
Earl worked as a mechanic at Kopper’s Inc. in Green Springs, WV. He was a member of the Friendship Haven Church, Cumberland, MD and a member of the Cumberland CB Radio Club. Earl enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Anne (Miller) Nixon; one son, Earl R. Nixon III and wife, Nicole, Old Town, MD; four daughters, Melissa K. Ritchie, CA; Deborah S. Bible, Cumberland; Virginia L. Nixon, Berlin, PA; Lavern A. Nazelrod and husband, Mark, Oakland; one brother, Raymond Nixon, Cumberland; two sisters, Mary Wagner and Cinda Buckalew, both of Corriganville, MD; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD, 21550, on Thursday, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday, July 12, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with Joe Yoder officiating. Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Cemetery, Cumberland.
