Curtis Ray Nugent, 88, of Friendsville, MD, died Monday, November 11, 2019, at his residence.
Born July 5, 1931, in Friendsville, he was the son of the late Ransler and Susan (Friend) Nugent. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Pauline (Wakefield) Nugent; one brother, Charles Nugent; two sisters, Annabelle Garletts and Dorothy Sines; and one grandson, Leonard Yommer, Jr.
Mr. Nugent was a foreman for Garrett Co. Roads Dept., retiring after 25 years of service and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. After retirement he cut and sold firewood and continued working up until his day of passing. He was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion, the Friendsville United Methodist Church and the former Selbysport United Methodist Church.
Curtis was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by three sons, Lonnie Nugent, Friendsville; Randy (Linda) Nugent, Mt. Lake Park, MD; Kenny (Linda) Nugent, Sebring, FL; four daughters, Cheryl (Curt) Clary, Friendsville; Janie (companion, Wayne Beckman) Nugent, Oakland, MD; Debra (Lenny) Yommer, Grantsville, MD; Sandy (Roger) Gittere, Friendsville; one brother, Delbert Nugent, Ft. Myers, FL; 10 grandchildren, Janice Nugent, Kimberly Crosson, Jennifer Kent, Mark Nugent, Jessica Stullenbarger, Ashley Clary, Kaila Beckman, Michael and Michelle Yommer, and Morgan Gittere; 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Friday, November 15, 2019, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Friendsville United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Samuel Wachter officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Sand Spring Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
