Clyde Samuel Fike, Jr., 82, of Friendsville, MD, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, PA.
Born April 15, 1937, in Friendsville, he was the son of the late Clyde Samuel and Mary Elizabeth (Bowser) Fike, Sr. He was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas Fike; one brother, Robert Fike; and two sisters, LuAnna Totson and Dorothy Ferrence.
He was a 1955 graduate of Northern High School. Clyde began working as a cement block maker, then became a worker for Penn Line Services. After having heart issues he began college at Garrett Community College and that Frostburg State University, where he became a teacher. He had a master’s degree in Social Sciences and a minor in Psychology and a certificate in Special Education. Clyde taught at a Christian School for 4 years, followed by subbing in public schools in Maryland and West Virginia. Clyde loved hunting and fishing. He was a scholar of the Civil War era and enjoyed watching baseball, football and hockey.
Clyde attended the Brethren Church at Salem, where he loved to teach and study the Bible. He also loved to debate theories and witness his faith in Jesus. He was a proud conservative, who valued his American heritage. He stood for the flag, respected his elders and kneeled at the Cross.
Today he leaves his family and friends to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Chris. He has been born again since the age of 15.
He is survived by his wife, Awilda Darlene (Bruner) Fike; four sons, Clyde S. Fike, III, Friendsville; Stephen Fike, Richlands, NC; Jeremy Fike and Michael Fike, both of Friendsville; two sisters, Florence Leighty, OH and Linda Miller, Markleysburg, PA; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Clyde was a good father, a loving and supportive husband, a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, camp counselor, Little League coach, and a Bible Scholar. He was a good example in our community.
He will missed by many. May he rest in peace.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 12-2 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Donnie Savage officiating. Cremation will follow the services and burial will take place in the Asher Glade Cemetery.
