Carlton A. Jones, 79, of Oakland, MD, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation, Oakland.
Born November 8, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late William Walter and Helen (Hartman) Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Levina Boehl Jones; one brother, Bill L. Jones; one sister, Mary Ola Jones.
Carlton was a bassoonist and contra-bassoonist for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. He held a Master of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie-Mellon University. He enjoyed classical music and was a member of the Lion’s Club. The highlight of his career was performing the world premier of Gunther Schuler’s Concert Bassoon Concerto in 1983, directed by Andre Previn in Pittsburgh.
He is survived by two sons, Troy Charles Jones and Todd Walter Jones and one grandson, Liam Patrick Jones.
According to his wishes, Carlton will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
