Carlton Wheeler "Cot" Bittinger

October 19, 1926 ~ March 25, 2018 (age 91)

Carlton Wheeler “Cot” Bittinger, 91, of Oakland, MD, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland.

Born October 19, 1926, in Thayerville, MD, he was the son of the late Walter Edward and Bernadette Roselle (Sebold) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Debora S. Heselbach, and one brother, Donald Bittinger.

Carlton worked as an equipment operator for the Maryland State Highway Administration. He loved going to auctions, fishing, and working on his old truck and tractors. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Accident, MD.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy V. “Dottie” Bittinger; two grandsons, Brandon C. Heselbach, and fiancé, Stacey, Frostburg, MD; Ryan D. Heselbach, and significant other, Lindsey, Flintstone, MD; a son-in-law, Kevin D. Heselbach, Berlin, MD; a sister, Bernadette Reckart, Romney, WV; one other brother and sister; five great grandchildren, Adyson, Liam, Aubrey, Brody and Natalie; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, on Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the Zion Lutheran Church, 209 N. Main St., Accident, MD, 21520, on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend James Oester officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to service.  Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Accident.
